Bloodborne – why has Sony abandoned it? (pic: Sony)
The mystery of why Sony continues to ignore Bloodborne has deepened, just as they admit console releases will always come first.
Bloodborne is one of the most critically acclaimed video games Sony has ever published and yet they’ve barely ever mentioned the game in public since the release of its DLC in 2015.
It’s never had a PlayStation 5 update and there’s been no PC port, and nobody knows why. It’s been suggested that Sony had a falling out with developer FromSoftware, of Elden Ring fame, but not long ago Sony bought shares in the studio’s parent company – so it can’t be that.
What exactly is going on remains a mystery but according to one eagle-eyed fan there already is a PC version, but for some reason Sony has never released it.
The information comes from trusted dataminer Lance McDonald, who has long claimed that a Windows version of the game exists.
His latest evidence comes from the filenames used by a FromSoftware environment artist, which seem to confirm a PC version intended for public use and which contains the Old Hunters DLC.

This is from years ago I only just noticed it today. I think a lot of people thought I was lying when I said Bloodborne already runs on PC and the dev team were using it regularly. But if you wanted actual proof, there you go.

The fact that a debug version exists is not a surprise, since all games are made on PC before being moved to console, but McDonald insists that this new evidence proves a version intended for public consumption is already finished.
Some fans have questioned McDonald’s logic with regards to the filenames but the artist that uploaded the images, to the Bloodborne Fandom wiki, did so years ago, which implies the PC version has been around for years but for some reason Sony never released it.
Just recently Sony reconfirmed that PC versions of games would not be released at the same time as the console version, but this is taking things to a ridiculous extreme.
Whatever’s going on it has no obvious explanation and all we can hope for is that there’s some kind of Bloodborne related announcement at Sony’s PlayStation Showcase on Wednesday.
