The radical “Last Generation” is giving up its name and would soon like to continue under a new name. Carla Hinrichs, co-founder and spokeswoman for the group, explains this in a “Spiegel” interview with the rapid progression of global warming.
“The situation is escalating before our eyes. And because we are no longer definitely the last generation before the tipping points, we will no longer call ourselves that. We leave the name behind us. We are no longer the last generation,” says Hinrichs. But the movement will not be dissolved. “Something new, something big will emerge from the structures of the last generation.”
“We want to make connections and prepare for the crises to come. It’s about mutual protection, social justice and cohesion,” it continues.
The “Last Generation” was created after a climate hunger strike in Berlin and is calling for more measures for climate protection. Since the beginning of 2022, it has repeatedly made a name for itself with radical blockades and costly graffiti. As early as January 2024, the group announced a change in strategy and the end of adhesive campaigns in city traffic.
