This is the moment boiling water flooded parts of Russia’s third largest city after a Soviet-era pipe burst.

Footage shows the ‘geyser’ pouring into the sky of Novosibirsk, in Siberia, wheretemperatures have plummeted to as low as -28°C.

Half a million residents have been abandoned without heating or hot water in the merciless Russian winter for the second time in one week.

Five people were also injured by the boiling water as it gushed outside, it was reported on Telegram.

Authorities said that as many as 161 apartment buildings, alongside schools and kindergartens have no heating.

Utility provider Siberian Generating Company said six hospitals are based in the area affected by the outage.

Videos show entire neighbourhoods in the city flooded and people struggling to cross streets covered by several inches of water.

When the ‘geyser’ erupted in the sky from the damaged pipe, it reached as high as the ninth floor of nearby apartment blocks.

This is the latest of incidents in Russia where tens of thousands of resident have been left without heating in freezing temperatures.

Similar outages have also been reported in the Moscow region and St Petersburg where people went out to protest against authorities for being left to ‘freeze to death’ in their homes.

In some regions, temporary heating centers have been opened and a state of emergency declared.
