After Twitch cut over 500 jobs, rival streaming platform Kick is eyeing up a takeover says its founder.

The video game streaming world has been dominated by Twitch for many years now, but YouTube, Facebook, and Kick have all invested time and money to compete against it in recent years, in what’s become known as the streaming wars.

Twitch’s dominance is in question, however, now that it’s confirmed it’s laying off over 500 employees, which is 35% of its work force.

The news has seen one of Kick’s founders, Bijan Tehrani, claim that the platform will one day buy Twitch and become the number one streaming service.

He was replying to a Twitter post which said: ‘Trying to fathom wtf is going to happen to this industry if Twitch somehow implodes.’

The Kick founder replied with a simple sentence: ‘Kick will eventually buy Twitch.’

Whether Kick is in a position to buy Twitch, if its share price were to drop, is unknown. But considering Kick paid xQc £70 million to sign a non-exclusive deal to stream on its site, it’s reasonable to imagine there’s more where that money came from.

The comment section of the post mostly encourages the takeover or finds the idea amusing, since it seemed so unlikely until recently.
