Bernice (Samantha Giles)’s life is in tatters in upcoming Emmerdale episodes, as her out-of-control spending has led to drastic consequences for her family.
Filling Dame Judi Dench with expensive scented candles was just the thin end of Bernice’s high spending wedge as she attempted to spend her way out of the B&B’s financial problems.
As a result the debts mounted and she was forced to take out a loan – but she put it in the name of her sister Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler). Nicola only became aware of this when the bailiffs turned up and started loading the King family’s possessions into a van.
Nicola of course realised that someone had fraudulently taken out the loan in her name and challenged it, but when she discovered it was her sister who’d put her in such a terrible situation she felt completely betrayed.

In upcoming episodes, far from facing up to what she’s done Bernice decides to go on the run.
This leaves her family and friends in absolute chaos. Nicola and Jimmy (Nick Miles) are struggling to deal with having such a huge debt in their name, and Jimmy tries to convince Nicola to report Bernice’s fraud.

Bob (Tony Audenshaw) is left to sort out a stream of angry suppliers when he realises that Bernice hasn’t been paying the bills.
And for Gabby (Rosie Bentham), once again she feels abandoned by her mother.
Bernice left Gabby when she was a small child, exiting the village to work on a cruise ship when her daughter was just a few months old. Gabby was brought up by her dad, Ashley (John Middleton), and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) until Bernice returned to the village and she and Gabby were reunited.

Bernice left the village again when she went to Australia, only returning after Gabby became pregnant with baby Thomas and began living with the Tates. It was a difficult reunion and mother and daughter have only gradually become close again.
With Bernice fleeing from her responsibilities and leaving the village – and Samantha Giles quitting the role to focus on other projects – poor Gabby is faced with the fact that her mother has left her yet again, and as this new spoiler video shows, Gabby can’t believe it.
