Who is Crispin Blunt? The Tory MP and former Army officer who left his wife of 20 years after coming out as gay – and has been arrested on suspicion of ‘rape and drug offences’
Daily Mail says Crispin Blunt won his seat in the House of Commons in a rare consolation for the Tories on a dark night as they suffered a crushing 1997 defeat at the hands of Tony Blair’s New Labour.
It marked a comeback for the former Army officer who signed up to Sandhurst at 18 in 1979 and stayed in the military, commissioned into the 13th/18th Royal Hussars, for more than a decade.
After leaving the forces, Blunt, 61, turned his attention to politics, finding himself knocked back by the voters of West Bromwich East at the 1992 election.
