MP Crispin Blunt arrested on suspicion of rape
Tory MP Crispin Blunt has confirmed he was arrested on suspicion of rape and the possession of controlled substances.
In a statement, he said he had been interviewed by the police twice in connection with this incident.
He said he originally raised the incident with the police three weeks ago as he was concerned about “extortion.”
He said he was cooperating with the police investigation and that he was confident he would not be charged.
The Conservative Party withdrew the whip, meaning Blunt will sit as an independent MP after he confirmed he had been arrested.
Blunt has been told to stay away from Parliament.
