A woman died after trying to remove her wisdom teeth while under the influence of cocaine.
Kiera Kent, 29, died at her home at St Ive, near Liskeard, in July last year.
An inquest recently heard how Ms Kent, a mum-of-five, had long suffered dental issues prior to the fatal evening she took the drug.
Giving evidence, DC Lindsay Cork said a post-mortem report showed scratches and abrasions inside Ms Kent’s mouth consistent with her pulling at her own skin.
The injuries, described as significant, also showed she had placed her hand in her mouth while trying to pull out her teeth.
DC Cork explained Ms Kent’s partner, Liam Crabtree, had called police after becoming concerned over her ‘bizarre and erratic’ behaviour.
Her cause of death was formally given as acute behaviour disturbance following cocaine use, which could have exacerbated a chemical imbalance in Ms Kent’s system, with fatal results.
At the inquest, the coroner read out a police report stating Ms Kent and Mr Crabtree had guests over for a barbecue the day of her death.

After taking the drug, Ms Kent went upstairs. Mr Crabtree became concerned when she did not reappear and followed to find her lying on the bed surrounded by blood.
Mr Crabtree called the police, who arrived and requested an ambulance, which was said to have been significantly delayed.
Officers then handcuffed Ms Kent’s hands in an attempt to stop her causing further damage to herself.
When she stopped breathing, the officers performed CPR for roughly 30 minutes before paramedics arrived and pronounced her dead.
Assistant coroner for Cornwall Guy Davies added at the inquest: ‘[The officers] found Kiera in a highly distressed condition, covered in blood, her hands injured and red raw after being thrust into her mouth. [They] fought valiantly to try and save her life.’
A crowdfunding page set up by the family states: ‘Kiera was a devoted mother of five gorgeous children. She will be sorely missed by all of us.
‘Kiera was the life and soul of our family. Such a loving person to all who knew her.’
