At least 44 killed in Pakistan after explosion at Islamist political rally
An explosion in the northwest Bajaur district in Pakistan has killed at least 44 people.
More than 100 people were injured during the explosion where the Islamist party – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) was holding a meeting.
Police told the BBC they have found evidence to suggest the explosion was a suicide bomber.
Officials have warned the death toll could rise further as at least 15 people remain in critical condition in hospital.
An investigation is taking place and a motive for the attack has not yet been established.
Hundreds of people were attending the JUI-F workers’ convention on Sunday. Pictures showed hundreds gathered under a canopy when the blast happened close to the stage.
