Paris Saint-Germain and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was reportedly the victim of a violent robbery in which he was tied up and attacked with thieves stealing €500,000 worth of jewellery and other items.
It is thought that several men targeted Donnarumma and his girlfriend overnight between Thursday and Friday in the eighth arrondissement of Paris, with the door of their home broken before a violent raid ensued, as per French media reports.
The 24-year-old and his partner Alessia Elefante, an interior designer, took refuge in a hotel near their home around 3.20am after being attacked and robbed and it is believed that Donnarumma has light injuries, while his girlfriend was unharmed.
The couple were taken to a hospital to recover from the shock of the incident and French police are investigating in an attempt to find the criminals responsible.
‘An investigation has been opened on charges of armed robbery in an organised gang and aggravated violence following the events that took place overnight at Mr Donnarumma’s place,’ a Paris prosecutor’s office spokesperson told the BBC.
As well as the jewellery, it is thought that the thieves took watches and luxury leather goods, totalling around £430,000.
Donnarumma is not the first PSG player to be targeted by Paris gangs with Marquinhos and Angel Di Maria also burgled in recent years.
