Red Dead Redemption – Alan Wake’s true enemy (pic: Rockstar Games)
Given that the October release schedules are already a bloodbath, the director of Alan Wake 2 is begging Rockstar not to make it even worse.
There is very little chance that Alan Wake 2 is going to be a hit. Not because of its quality but because it comes out three days before Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and five days after Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
That whole period, in mid to late October, is absolute madness in terms of new releases and people have only got so much time and money to spend on games – and the director of Alan Wake 2 knows it.
You can only assume he’s not the one that picked the release date, because now he’s begging Rockstar Games not to release the rumoured Red Dead Redemption remaster at the same time, which will make things even more difficult for Alan Wake 2.
The remaster of the original Red Dead Redemption has been rumoured for a while and although no release date has been mentioned it did turn up at the South Korean ratings board, which means it’s at least relatively imminent.
Unless Alan Wake 2 director Kyle Rowley somehow knows Rockstar’s secrets there’s nothing specific to suggest Red Dead Redemption will be out in October but what he’s worried about is that when Red Dead Redemption originally came out on May 18, 2010, it was just four days after Alan Wake – which was partially blamed for the game’s disappointing sales.

‘I swear to god, if the rumoured Red Dead remastered comes out on October 17th. Don’t you do it @RockstarGames. PLEASE!’ wrote Rowley on Twitter.
Hopefully he won’t be that unlucky but Alan Wake 2’s release does seem doomed and if Rowley knows it, it’s a shame he can’t make publisher Epic Games change the date. Especially as there’s almost nothing major being released in November at all.
