Today’s news summary – Paper Talk
Wednesday’s front page continues its coverage of the BBC scandal.
BBC sex photo scandal
The Sun – which originally broke the story – reports that another young person received texts from the presenter containing hearts and kisses on Instagram when they were 17.
The i newspaper also focuses on the new young person, who spoke to BBC News on Tuesday and accused the unnamed BBC presenter of sending “abusive messages.” The paper adds that “pressure grows” on the unnamed presenter to reveal his identity.
Metro says that the young person hinted online that they might name the presenter and, in response, they were sent abusive, expletive-filled messages.
The Daily Express says the BBC has been left “reeling” over the latest claims against the presenter, whilst the Daily Mirror leads on the new young person getting “threats and abuse.”
The Daily Telegraph reports on the words of former BBC newsreader Kate Silverton, who accused the BBC of “not prioritising the needs of the victim when the first complaint was made.”
‘No extra cash’
Away from the BBC scandal, the Guardian’s front page focus is on pay in the public sector. The paper leads on words from Jeremy Hunt warning there is “no extra cash” to pay workers an average 6% pay rise.
The Financial Times also leads on the Ukrainian president’s frustrations over Ukraine’s wait for Nato membership. Zelensky said the lack of a clear timeline meant Russia had “motivation to continue its terror”.
