Carrie Fisher’s last movie is finally being released.
The Star Wars legend died in 2016 at the age of 60, devastating fans around the world and leaving behind her only daughter, actress Billie Lourd.
While best known for playing the iconic Princess Leia in the sci-fi franchise, Fisher had other classic roles across drama and comedy, including the likes of Catastrophe and 30 Rock.
Her final role was in feature-length fantasy movie Wonderwell – which also stars singer Rita Ora and Heartstopper newcomer Sebastian Croft – which wrapped filming just weeks before her death.
And after seven years, the film is finally set to be released.
Director Vlad Marsavin explained trying to release the film over the best part of a decade has been ‘perilous,’ from working on the high visual effects to the challenges of ‘Covid lockdowns and of course the passing of our wonderful Carrie Fisher.’
Now however, ‘is the perfect time to share her magical on screen moments as Hazel.’

He told Deadline the star’s death was ‘very emotional for the whole team,’ praising her for being ‘full of energy’ both on and off the set.
She even celebrated her 60th birthday with the cast and crew while working on the film, recalling: ‘After a night shoot, which went on until 2am, she invited the whole team to celebrate with her and the party ended up being shut down by the police because it was deemed a little too loud.’
Her co-star, Rita, who has previously starred in Detective Pikachu and 50 Shades of Grey, also reacted to the film finally getting a release date, saying: ‘Working alongside Carrie Fisher was one of those experiences that you never forget.
‘I can’t wait for the world to see this intriguing and magical world of Wonderwell.’
The film sees Fisher play the role of eccentric and oddly mystical Hazel, who shows a young girl disillusioned with the world and her family a portal to what the future may hold for her.

Wonderwell’s rights have been acquired by distributor Vertical, and is currently set for a limited theatrical run via AMC in the United States from June 23 before being released digitally.
Fisher’s daughter Lourd has followed in her footsteps to a glittering acting career, having appeared in famous teen classics from Everything Sucks to American Horror Story and, most recently, Euphoria.
The star, herself a mum of two, recently shared a heart-wrenching tribute to her late mum on Mother’s Day, admitting: ‘Even though I’ve been a mom for almost 3 years and now have 2 kids of my own the first thing I think of when I hear happy Mother’s Day is her.’
She finished her sweet message by writing: ‘So like I say every year. Happy Mother’s Day but also griefy / sad / lonely / estranged / frustrated / etc Mother’s Day! Mixed Emotions Mother’s Day!!! (Hallmark or whoever else makes cards out there – y’all should make that a card!!!)
‘Sending my love to anyone and everyone out there who needs it. You are not alone.’
