Former ministers’ peerages ‘scrapped to avoid by-elections’
THE TIMES SAYS Rishi Sunak will publish Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list as soon as today amid claims that two Conservative MPs have been taken off it to avoid by-elections.
The former prime minister’s 50-strong list has been waved through by Sunak after being significantly pruned. Johnson’s father, Stanley, has been removed after No 10 raised objections.
With Nadine Dorries, the former culture secretary, and Alok Sharma, the former Cop26 president, expected to stand down to take peerages, Sunak had been facing two by-elections.
