If walls could talk, you’d really, really want to be chatting to the refurbished rooms at Ibiza’s stunning Pikes Hotel.
After all, this is the iconic party venue which has hosted the likes of George Michael, Grace Jones, and Freddie Mercury.
Set in the hills of northern Ibiza, and surrounded by lush Mediterranean gardens, this boasts one of the most famous pools in the history of pop.
The same acquamarine pool features in Wham!’s Club Tropicana music video – a flashback which somehow perfectly captures the joy and debauchery of the hotel.
Pikes was founded in 1978 by the late great Tony Pike – a man once referred to as the ‘Hugh Hefner of Ibiza’ by Boy George.
The San Antonio 25-room haven has a decades-long reputation of hedonism and debauchery, and although it’s channeling far more sophisticated vibes now, it still maintains a strict no-kids policy (But who wants sticky-fingered children marking the walls of a hotel named by Sunday Times Travel as one of the top 100 ‘best in the world’, anyway?).
Go to sleep with Grace Jones… The hotel’s new look is ‘up to the minute, ultra high end, contemporary and stylish, incorporating clever nods to the magical eccentricities of Pikes and its glittering history.’ (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
The interior concept of the new Garden Suites is ‘a heady alchemy of Brit-Eccentrics meets timeless rock ’n roll.’ (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
The hotel itself was originally created in the late 1970s and was the location for Wham’s famous Club Tropicana video, as well as Freddie Mercury’s 41st birthday party – now the hotel’s nightclub is called ‘Freddies’ (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
Pikes is home to one of the island’s most intimate of dancefloors, which has seen the likes of Fatboy Slim, Idris Elba and Goldie take to the decks (Picture: Pikes)
The hotel was lovingly restored in 2011 but now a full refurb – inside and out – has transformed eight of the original bedrooms, bathrooms and external spaces, incorporating the work from both British and Ibicencan designers and craftspeople.
Pikes Rooms have gold sinks, mid-century modern brass taps, and metro wall tiling. The hotel’s Golden Suites have mini bars, a coloured stone worktop, and SMEG fridges.
Bespoke stools upholstered with ‘Tiger Mountain’ by Six The Residence are ‘a vintage touch’ and a geometric pattern print by Kirkby Design called ‘Piccadilly Line’ is ‘a nod to London with a 1970’s twist’ (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
Abstract printed throws by SlowDown Studio can be found on the beds, while Nordic Knot rugs cover cool stone floors (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
Not everything has had a do-over… Floors have been kept natural with the use of local stone in a golden earthy tone. To preserve the authenticity of the rooms, the original finca style with Sabina wooden ceiling beams has been retained (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
Then there’s the hotel restaurant, the mysteriously-named Pamelas – so who WAS she?
Theories abound the eaterie was named after Tony Pike’s ex-lover, a colleague or even a long-lost relative. Whoever the namesake, the restaurant has also had an overhaul and now boasts stunning gold leaf parrot wallpaper from London design house Divine Savages.
Pamela, whoever she was, would most definitely approve.

Even Pamelas has had a decadent glam-up, with glitzy gold basins in the bathroom (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
Although the drinks at Club Tropicana are free, they aren’t at Pikes – but the cocktails are well worth paying for. trust us! (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
Each room boasts a different whimsical print from art deco martini glasses to exotic animals, tropical fruits, flowers and plants (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
Bathrooms have been completely remodelled and refurbished with gold metallic sinks, mid-century modern brass taps and fittings, metro wall tiling finished with playful, colour matching wallpaper by Divine Savages (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
Comfort is one of the key focuses for the redesign. Each room has a super-king bed with ‘top quality mattresses, covered with deep toppers and crisp white cotton bedding’. Statement velvet scalloped headboards and matching black-out curtains on the windows ensure the ‘deepest and most comfortable nights’… when you’re not out partying in Freddies! (Picture: Sofia Gomez Fonzo)
It’s not all change, though: rooms have retained their original finca style and still have their gorgeous Sabina wooden ceiling beams.
Lucinda Swayne, head interior designer, said keeping the quirkiness was a must for designers. She said ‘guests will literally never want to leave.’
With this slice of rock and roll history, it’s hardly a surprise.
Pikes Room rates start from €199 per room in low season, while Garden Suite rates start from €312 per room in low season. For more information and to find out about Pikes club nights click here.
