2023 Women’s World Cup: Countdown begins as tickets sell quick
Ticket sales for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, being hosted by Australia and New Zealand, have almost reached the 1 million mark. With just 50 days to go, there are currently over 850,000 tickets sold for the tournament.
Fifa Secretary General Fatma Samoura expressed her excitement, stating that 2023 will be a pivotal moment for women’s football. The World Cup, featuring 32 nations including England and the Republic of Ireland, is scheduled to kick off on 20 July, with the final taking place on 20 August.
According to a spokesperson from Fifa, the milestone of one million ticket sales is expected to be achieved within the next few weeks. The tournament’s organisers aim to set a record with 1.5 million tickets sold and target a global television viewership of two billion.
The first match will be held between co-hosts New Zealand and former world champions Norway at Eden Park in Auckland on 20 July at 08:00 BST. The finale will be held at Stadium Australia in Sydney on the 20 August at 11:00 BST.
England and the Republic of Ireland will have their group matches in Australia.
England will commence their campaign against World Cup newcomers Haiti in Brisbane on 22 July at 10:30. Six days later, Sarina Wiegman’s European champions will face Denmark in Sydney at 09:30. They will conclude Group D with a match against China in Adelaide on 1 August at 12:00.
England boss Sarina Wiegman is expected to announce her squad later on Wednesday – the England women’s team have been hit with a series of injuries in the last few months with captain Leah Williamson and Beth Mead already ruled out.
