The latest episode of Succession was a family affair in more ways than one, as Brian Cox’s real-life wife, Nicole Ansari-Cox, actually had a cameo as Logan Roy’s mistress.
During the penultimate episode of season four, the world gathered for the funeral of the Roy patriarch, with his children, Connor (Alan Ruck), Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) leading those saying their final goodbyes.
As those mourning Logan took their seats, Lady Caroline (Harriet Walter) introduced ‘Sally-Anne’ as her very own ‘Kerry’, revealing the newbie was one of her ex-husband’s many mistresses.
She also invited Kerry Castellabate (Zoe Winters) to join them in the front row beside Logan’s third wife, Marcia (Hiam Abbass).
‘God, Logan would hate this,’ they tittered, as Marcia added: ‘At least he won’t grind his teeth tonight.’
It didn’t take long for fans to spot the connection between the newcomer and Brian, who played Logan to perfection for four seasons.

Flocking to Twitter, an eagle-eyed viewer penned: ‘The fact that they snuck Brian Cox’s real life wife into #Succession as one of his side pieces is brilliant!’
‘I love funny Easter eggs, especially when they tie back to real life! Cameo by Brian Cox’s wife. #Succession,’ another agreed.
‘Brian Cox’s wife appearing as Caroline’s “Kerry” was brilliant #Succession,’ an impressed Twitter user said.
As one added: ‘Fun penultimate episode easter egg to cast Nicole Ansari (Brian Cox’s wife) as one of Logan’s ex-girlfriends. #Succession.’

Succession viewers were thrown for a total loop when Logan was killed off early on in the fourth and final season, with his on-screen family falling apart under the burden of his death.
The news may have come as a shock, as Brian was actually pictured filming a fake-out scene at Logan’s funeral, as a way of throwing people off the scent.
Speaking to Deadline after his death aired, he was questioned on whether he was ‘entirely out’ of Succession, to which he laughed: ‘I mean, I did actually turn up for the funeral.
‘On my funeral day, they were going to do a scene with me, a fake scene with me at the church, so, just to throw people off the scent.’
Bosses actually ran out of time to film the scene and informed the actor that he didn’t need to come down, but he was already on his way to set and opted to turn up anyway.
‘I said, look, I’m coming in, because I know there’s going to be a whole lot of paparazzi there, and they’re going to be wondering what that funeral is. I am coming in,’ he recalled.
‘So, I said to my driver, I said, Joe, let’s go, we’re going. So, and as soon as I got out of the car, there were paparazzi shooting me left, right and center, and therefore, they thought, Logan’s at the funeral, what is he doing?
‘If I hadn’t done that, if I hadn’t come, they would’ve gone, it’s Logan’s funeral. And I was the one who took that responsibility. They didn’t even think of it. They were so rushed, and so much [of] this last season was very difficult to film.’
Well played, Brian.
The Succession finale will air on Sunday, May 28, on HBO in the US, and on Monday on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
