Gerard Piqué’s followers did not hold back with the brutal comments when he decided to share a photo with his girlfriend.
The Spanish footballer, 36, is in a relationship with Clara Chia Martí, 24, making their romance Instagram official with in January.
They’ve kept their new relationship relatively private, given Piqué’s high-profile split from ex Shakira last year.
It was announced in May that the sportsman and the Hips Don’t Lie singer, 46, would be parting ways after 11 years and two children together.
Their separation has been anything but private, with lengthy legal battles over custody, Shakira throwing shade and then jetting off to Barcelona for a new start.
Meanwhile, Piqué seems to be trying to protect his new relationship, having only shared one image of himself and his new partner since they got together – and the comments section of his recent post probably explains why.
Taking to Instagram over the weekend, the footballer uploaded a cosy selfie with his other half.
Captioned simply with an orange love heart, the snap captured the lovebirds sitting in the sun, with his girlfriend taking the photo as Piqué nuzzled into her neck.
His decision to leave the comments on was somewhat brave, as fans were quick to roast him.
‘You’ll always be shakira’s ex 😂’, one person wrote.
‘Who is ? Ahh Shakira’s ex? 😅’, wrote another.
‘Shakira shakira’, one wrote, quoting the iconic lyric.
‘You will be “SHAKIRA’S EX” all your life’, one added.

The comments were also flooded – and we mean flooded – with gifs of Shakira.
Honestly, maybe just switch the comments off next time, Piqué, eh?
Despite the backlash to his new romance and rumours that he was unfaithful to Shakira, Piqué has previously said he’s ‘very happy’.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper El Pais about the changes in his personal life, he also stressed the importance of ‘protecting’ his sons, Milan and Sasha.
‘It is about protecting them,’ the athlete told the outlet in reference to his children.
‘That is the job of all parents with children. That is what I am focused on and that is my job as a father.’
On infidelity claims, he added: ‘The day I die, I will look back and hope I have always done what I wanted.’

Piqué said that he wants ‘to be faithful to’ himself regarding major life decisions and no longer places value on public opinion.
‘The problem is how people perceive things or how the press packages it,’ he continued.
‘I’m still doing what I want. I’m not gonna waste money on cleaning up my image.’

Instead, Piqué is ‘putting energy on the people closest’ to him.
‘The people that I love and worry about are the people that know me. The rest, I don’t care. I’m very happy. There’s been changes in my life and I’ve known how to preserve that happiness.’
