A hospital patient was fed ‘disgusting’ food while on a ward that consisted of turkey meat, beans, half a tomato, with watery gravy poured over the top.
Hazel-Ann McDonald, 55, was presented with the grim plate at Ayr Hospital in Scotland on Wednesday night.
Her daughter decided to buy her a McDonald’s to enjoy instead.
Hazel was at the hospital receiving treatment for an infection when the plate had appeared.
Bosses at Ayr Hospital have since been forced to apologise and admitted the food was ‘not up to our usual standard.’
Kevin Nicholson, 47, Hazel’s partner from Prestwick, said: ‘The state of the food my partner received is absolutely shocking. We are disgusted.
‘They never gave her any choice, they just dumped it on her.
‘I’m just struggling to see that someone thought it was a good choice of a meal. Someone in the kitchen has actually thought that was acceptable.

‘It’s a complete mess. Beans and gravy just don’t go and why have they just given her half a tomato?’
He said there previously had been no problems on other visits, with the food standards usually a lot higher.
Kevin added: ‘Usually in the wards you get a menu choice, there is plenty to chose from but this was just inedible.
