Three people are reportedly dead and two police officers were injured in a mass shooting in New Mexico.
A suspect was confronted by cops and killed in the incident in Farmington on Monday, said police, according to KOAT.
Both cops who were shot are in stable condition and are being treated at San Juan Regional Medical Center.
The identity of the suspect was not immediately known, stated police, adding that there was no further threat the public.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) tweeted shortly before 3pm local time that it was ‘responding to a report of a mass shooting in Farmington’.
Farmington Municipal Schools in a Facebook post at 11.15am stated that all campuses were ‘placed in a preventative lockdown at the request of the Farmington Police Department’. Apache and McKinley elementary schools, the Central Kitchen and the CATE Center were ‘placed under an emergency lockdown due to police activity in the area’.
By 11.40am, the preventative lockdowns were lifted. The sites that were under an emergency lockdown were downgraded to a preventative lockdown at 12.40pm. At 1.05pm, those preventative lockdowns were lifted and all students were released.
Farmington is in the northwest corner of the state, near The Navajo Nation.
