Today’s news summary – Paper Talk 

Friday’s front pages report on several news stories including the Prince and Princess of Wales visiting a SOHO pub during a break from Coronation rehearsals.

The Metro reports that the prince served a pint, while the Daily Mirror calls his wife the “Princess of Ales.” The Daily Express quotes the Dean of Westminster, who says that the King appears “relaxed” despite the “huge burden” of the Coronation. The Daily Mail reports a “furious row” over China’s decision to send Vice-President Han Zheng instead of President Xi Jinping, while the Daily Telegraph says that the King will host a reception for foreign dignitaries before retiring early. 

Finally, the Daily Star reports an increase in demand for royal lookalikes ahead of the Coronation.

Voter ID requirements may be expanded 

Labour MPs express opposition to the party’s decision to ban constituency branches from affiliating with Republic, according to the Guardian. 

The Financial Times reports that voter ID requirements may be expanded after the local elections. The Times reports that the government plans to release prisoners on day release to address labour shortages, while the Daily Mirror calls Shell’s £7.6bn quarterly profit “obscene.”
