Nicola Bulley: Man, 34, arrested over police scene footage
On Wednesday morning, Lancashire Police arrested a 34-year-old man from Kidderminster, Worcestershire, on suspicion of malicious communications offences and perverting the course of justice.
The arrest was made in connection with footage taken from inside a police cordon on 19 February, the day that the body of Nicola Bulley was found in the River Wyre.
Nicola Bulley, a 45-year-old mortgage adviser, disappeared while walking her dog. Her body was found 23 days later in the river. It is believed that Nicola accidentally fell into the river whilst walking her dog.
The man has since been released on bail with conditions.
Lancashire Police worked in conjunction with West Mercia Police on the arrest.
A number of apparent content creators had descended on the village where Ms Bulley went missing. Experts claim that social media algorithms that reward and encourage controversial content fuelled the waves of online interest in Ms Bulley’s disappearance.
During the investigation, Det Supt Rebecca Smith said social media users had been “playing their own private detectives”. The police force has expressed its continued support for Ms Bulley’s family and the wider community in St Michael’s.
