In the days following its launch, ChatGPT-powered Microsoft Bing started giving ‘unhinged’ answers and Microsoft is limiting its interaction time with humans as a response.
Last week, Microsoft said it would limit chat sessions on its new Bing search engine powered by generative artificial intelligence (AI) to five questions per session and 50 questions per day.
The company said that longer sessions ‘confuse the underlying chat model in the new Bing’.
‘To address these issues, we have implemented some changes to help focus the chat sessions,’ Microsoft said in the blog post.
Microsoft’s decision comes days after some media outlets reported that answers from the new Bing search engine were potentially dangerous and that the technology might not be ready for public use.

Early search results and conversations with Microsoft’s Bing and Google’s chatbot, called Bard, have shown they can be unpredictable.
This month, Microsoft announced that it was updating its Bing search engine with AI chatbot, ChatGPT, in an attempt to compete with Google.
The new Bing, which has a waitlist of millions of people for access, is a potentially lucrative opportunity for Microsoft.
However, since the update, Bing has been prone to making factual errors while answering questions and summarising web pages.
Users have also been able to manipulate the system, using codewords and specific phrases to trick it into revealing how it processes queries.
A boss at Google hit out at ChatGPT for giving ‘convincing but completely fictitious’ answers.
Which is kind of ironic, since Google’s own AI chatbot, Bard, recently cost the company £100,000,000,000 by giving the wrong answer.
Nevertheless, the search giant maintains people should be wary of ChatGPT.
