London Zoo has shared adorable snaps of gorillas getting to spend their first Valentine’s Day together, complete with a heart-shaped piñata.
What’s better than cute photos of couples on Valentine’s Day? Pictures of cute animals, of course.
London Zoo zookeepers were delighted to see three of their most popular primates enjoying the day of love.
Staff are hoping the Western Lowland gorillas, two girls Mjukuu, Effie and a boy Kabuki will finally meet their perfect match.
To help them out, they’ve offered up some tasty treats with a Valentine’s twist.
They’ve been given nutritious greens, including sweet potato, cucumbers, and sweetcorn in heart-shaped piñatas.
Animal lovers got to see snaps from their adorable date on social media after London Zoo posted an update on Instagram.

‘Love was in the air, as Zookeepers played matchmaker to recent arrival Kiburi and his new ladies Mjukuu and Effie – treating the Western lowland gorillas to a heart shaped piñata filled with tasty vegetables and nutritious greens.
‘And as they celebrate their first Valentine’s Day together, keepers have revealed the love match to be a resounding success!’
Gorilla Kiburi arrived at the zoo back in November 2022, just in time for Christmas.
Kiburi was brought in as part of the European breeding programme for critically endangered species and has been getting to know Mjukuu and Effie ever since.
He’s already quite famous as he even featured in a Channel 4 festive special about the attraction.
Zookeepers are hoping that they’ll get on well enough to produce some babies to help the species to continue.
Speaking of their newest addition, gorilla keeper Jo Barnes previously said: ‘Kiburi is definitely the strong silent type, and the girls have been working hard to get his attention – but it’s clear he has developed a real affection for Mjukuu and Effie.
‘We’ve spotted them grooming him and Mjukuu, the dominant female, is often caught gazing lovingly at Kiburi – all really good signs that they’re big fans of the strapping, 181kg new gorilla in their life.
‘All being well, we hope it won’t be long before we hear the pitter-patter of baby gorilla feet!’
