Simon Jordan has fired a warning to Manchester United fans wanting Elon Musk to replace the Glazer family as the club’s new owner.
The tech-billionaire is one of the richest people in the world and reportedly wants to own his boyhood club after the Glazers put United on the market in November.
Musk is not the only person keen on purchasing the club, though, with a Qatari group also linked as well as Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe – who has publicly declared his interest – and there is expected to be further bids.
United are valued at around £3.9bn but the Glazer family are hoping to raise as much as £6bn through a full sale.
‘Be careful with Elon Musk, while I think he is a brilliant man, he is after influence,’ Jordan told talkSPORT.
‘Twitter is influence, it is social media and influence in controlling the way people think.
‘Owning a football club supplements that way of thinking too.
‘Be careful of what you wish for when you get these types of people involved.
‘They are not always straight line thinking going behind what they want to do or benefit to others.
‘I have always felt it is likely that an American ownership model would come in.’
Meanwhile, Dean Saunders unleashed a rant about ‘imposter’ owners when asked for his views on the rumours linking Musk to a takeover of United.
‘Now we’ve got imposters coming in, with bags of money, playing Football Manager with your football club,’ Saunders also told talkSPORT.
‘I heard Gary Neville saying they need to build a new stadium and a new training ground. When someone buys a club they’ll do whatever they want.
‘If Elon Musk buys it, what’s he going to do? Just buy a new team? How long is that going to last? Until he gets fed up?’
