Patrice Evra has urged Erik ten Hag to give Marcus Rashford whatever contract he wants, tipping the forward to become Manchester United captain.
Rashford has been United’s star player this season, with 18 goals and six assists in 29 appearances so far.
The England international has been in especially sensational form since the World Cup, scoring 10 in 10 games and he could yet add to that tally on Saturday night when the Red Devils host Reading in the FA Cup.
Much talk is now turning to his future, with the 25-year-old’s contract up in just 18 months time, with Ten Hag publicly and privately urging his player to sign a new long term deal amid reported interest from PSG.
United legend Evra hopes that Rashford stays at Old Trafford, claiming that the talisman has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Roy Keane and Wayne Rooney and become club captain.
‘Every week Marcus Rashford is performing. I have to say congratulations to him, I’m really proud of him,’ the former defender told Betfair.
‘He’s smiling and that’s the key. I’ve always said that he will become the captain of the club one day.’

‘For Ten Hag, Rashford is his main man. His project, his ambition, he’s still young, he’s fresh and you can see that he is the priority for Ten Hag and that’s why he’s urging Rashford to sign a new deal with United.
‘He’s got that Mancunian mentality and now he’s fixed his happiness.
For me, the biggest priority for Man United right now is to keep that kid happy. So, give him the contract he wants because he’s the future of the club. It’s simple.
‘He’s proved himself this season, he’s in the form of his life, but we’ve always known that he can perform like that. Keep him happy and build a team around him. That’s what I’d be doing if I was United.’
The future of United’s captaincy is up in the air at the moment, given the limited game time that skipper Harry Maguire is getting, with Bruno Fernandes wearing the armband in his absence.
Rashford is of course United born and bred, having scored 111 goals in 332 games since his first-team debut in 2016.
