Sam Smith has chatted about the craziest rumour ever, that they’re actually secretly Adele – in drag.
Yep, you heard that right: some people actually think Sam is Someone Like You singer Adele.
According to the theory, perhaps even wilder than the Avril Lavigne one where fans claimed the singer died in 2003 and was replaced by a doppelganger called Melissa, Sam has been masquerading as Adele all this time.
The conspiracy’s, erm, reasoning, is that Sam, 30, and Adele, 34, have never been seen in the same room. Dun, dun, dun…
Speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show with a cheeky grin, the Unholy hitmaker said: ‘Everyone thinks I’m Adele. We’ve never been seen in the same room together.
‘If you slow down her voice, it sounds a bit like mine. So people think we’re the same person, and I’m just in drag right now.’

The live audience laughed along with them, and while some of Twitter questioned whether the singer does sound like Adele or not, many found it pretty hilarious too.
One person wrote, ‘Oh, come on Adele! Take that wig off!!!’ while another said: ‘I literally have a playlist with my fav ballads from each of you as I’ve always felt your music sounds good together/similar vibe’.
This comes as the Stay With Me singer drops their fourth studio album, Gloria, which they said is their most authentic yet after the star publicly announced their gender identity as non-binary in 2019.
Sam said ahead of the release on January 27: ‘I’ve always been authentic.
‘I just think asking a 24-year-old to be their 100% self in front of 20,000 people was never going to happen.

‘I showed 70% of who I was then and a lot of that has to do with me being gay.
‘As I got older, though, I realised there’s no shame. I wasn’t being inauthentic – you just keep some things to yourself until you’re ready.’
