Steven Gerrard believes Mykhailo Mudryk ‘looks the real deal’ after his impressive debut for Chelsea in their goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday.
The 22-year-old made his first appearance for Graham Potter’s side since his £88.6m move from Shakhtar Donetsk last weekend.
Arsenal had made Mudryk their top priority for the January transfer window but Chelsea rushed in to complete a deal with the Ukrainian club and the winger gave fans a glimpse of his talent with a lively display in the second half at Anfield.
‘If I’m a Chelsea fan I would be extremely excited by Mudryk,’ Gerrard told BT Sport after the game.
‘I thought that was a very strong cameo. If he’s not fit and there’s more to come from him, then that’s really exciting. He looks the real deal.
‘He reminded me a bit of [Arjen] Robben. His footwork and how quick he is, I would be very excited.’

Asked if he was excited by the performance of Mudryk, former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips told Premier League Productions: ‘Yes, I actually was, he brought a bit of life, attacking flair, and directness to the game for Chelsea.
‘I think if you come on and start off like this, you believe you can do anything.’
