Sixteen Candles actress Carole Cook has died at the age of 98.
The broadway star’s death was confirmed by her husband Tom Troupe, 94, who revealed she died in Beverly Hills from heart failure.
Cook was best friends with Hollywood legend Lucille Ball, and worked with her on the American sitcom The Lucy Show from 1963 to 1968 and Here’s Lucy from 1969 to 1974.
The late actress – who would have turned 99 on January 14 – also starred in John Hughes’ 1984 romcom Sixteen Candles, where she played the grandmother of Molly Ringwald’s character Sam Baker.
On the small screen, her acting credits include That Girl, Maude and Kojak, as well as a short stint on US soap opera Dynasty.

She was also honoured alongside her husband as the pair became the first husband and wife duo to be given the accolade.
Cook was also an active advocate for HIV/AIDS charities. She spent over 30 years working with S.T.A.G.E. LA, a musical theatre benefit for HIV/AIDS, and performed annually at San Francisco’s Help Is On The Way benefit, an organization honouring the founders’ sons, who died of the virus

We all want to be beloved, and that would be nice,” she said. “I’d like for them to think ‘I’m glad I knew her,’ she said.
