While we might all be shouting ‘Take it off’ at the next celebrity to be unmasked on The Masked Singer on Saturday nights, Londoners are taking something else off this weekend.
Notably, their pants.
Yep, the underground will be overrun with underwear on Sunday. Why? We’ll keep the explanation brief(s).
What is the No Trouser Tube ride?
In a case of ‘it’s literally in the name’, the No Trouser Tube ride is where people ride the Tube without wearing their trousers.
It’s a British spin on the No Pants Subway Ride which started in New York City back in 2002.

Essentially, people are invited to meet at an agreed location where they’ll split off into groups and ride across the rail networks in major cities in their intimates.
Wh-Y(fronts), we hear you ask? It’s simply a bit of fun.
The improv comedy group Improv Everywhere started it in NYC originally, with The Stiff Upper Lip Society organising events in the UK. It’s a way to challenge people to take part in something a bit silly, all while keeping a perfectly straight face about it all.
Listen, January can be a bit of a dull month. So, needs must.

How to take part in the No Trouser Tube ride
If you want to show off your new Christmas pants, this year’s No Trouser Tube Ride is taking place on Sunday, January 8.
It’s a special one, too. Not only is it the first one since Covid, it’ll include the first ever trouserless ride on the Elizabeth line.
The only listed rules for the day require people to be:
Willing to take trousers off on the Tube
Able to keep a straight face about it
But, of course, it should be noted that one should wear appropriate underwear. Leave the saucier lingerie off the Piccadilly line.

Brave Londoners donning their finest (and, one hopes, cleanest) intimates are asked to meet at Chinatown by 3pm.
The postcode for the meeting is WC2H 7JR.
