Wes Brown says it is ‘no surprise’ to see Cristiano Ronaldo fail to secure a move to another European club but insists the veteran striker will always be a Manchester United legend.
United officially parted ways with Ronaldo in early December, terminating his contract by mutual consent in the aftermath of his interview with Piers Morgan where he took aim at manager Erik ten Hag and the club owners.
The 37-year-old has now joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr after agreeing a deal said to be worth a colossal £177m-a-year, with the striker eager to ‘experience a new football league in a new country.’
Ronaldo was offered to a number of clubs after initially pushing to leave Old Trafford during the summer transfer window with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain among the those offered his services.
Chelsea and Bayern again distanced themselves from a move for the Portugal star this month.
And while his second spell at United ended acrimoniously, Ronaldo’s former teammate Brown believes the five-time Ballon d’Or winner should still be remembered fondly back at Old Trafford.
‘Ultimately, he tried to go in the summer and there was nothing really here for him.

‘I’m not sure what clubs [were in] but the clubs he wanted to come in just didn’t,’ Brown told Metro.co.uk on behalf on Bet365.
‘Ultimately, it is crazy money for him. It will be a bit different for him, it will be a different experience for him.
‘But regardless, he is a legend of game and whatever people say, as a Manchester United fan, he will always be a legend at the club.
‘We achieved so much when he was there, we have to wish him the best. There isn’t long left now, he just needs to enjoy it and play as much as we can.
‘It is a bit different for him but it also depends on what the family all agree on and what they all agree on too.’
Al Nassr confirmed their deal for Ronaldo on Friday evening, writing in a statement: ‘This is more than history in the making.
‘This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves. Welcome Cristiano to your new home Al Nassr.’
