Widespread strike action is underway today as the New Year approaches.
More than 1,000 Border Force staff belonging to the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union are taking part in industrial action lasting eight days of the festive period.
The Army has been drafted in to mitigate any potential disruption at six airports affected by the strikes.
However, queues appear to be minimal and airports are even running ‘better than usual’ in some areas.
PCS union general secretary Mark Serwotka said: ‘We’re aware our action is likely to inconvenience travellers but, even as we escalate it ahead of Christmas, we remind people this dispute could be resolved today if the Government puts more money on the table.’
Driving examiners have also chosen to strike today, meaning some tests might be affected.
People have been urged to check the Government’s website for more information.
The strike action is part of the wider national industrial action by the unions over pay, pensions, jobs and redundancy terms.

National Highways workers are taking further strike action – as part of widespread walk outs between December 16 and January 7.
There have been warnings over potential delays on the road as a result of the protests.
Those responsible for programming electronic signs that provide information about speed limits and lane closures – who work closely with emergency services to monitor the roads – are among the striking staff.
Bus drivers are due to strike tomorrow – New Year’s Eve – with further industrial action planned for sectors across Britain’s workforce.
