Andy Cohen teased a more ‘sober’ New Year’s Eve on CNN (Picture: NBC)
Andy Cohen has vowed to remain sober for CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast, after his infamous stint last December.
During the four-hour broadcast, to ring out 2021, it became very clear that the Bravo icon was intoxicated – leaving viewers both tickled and shocked.
At one point, the 54-year-old took aim at Ryan Seacrest’s rival coverage on another network, and slammed former New York mayor, Bill de Blasio.
However, shedding light on this year’s festivities, he insisted that it would be a more sober affair.
After joking in a previous interview that he would be ‘partying responsibly with Anderson Cooper, he has since clarified his comments.
‘We aren’t drinking, but we’re going to have a blast,’ he told Page Six.
Andy’s comments come after Ryan jokingly suggested that CNN should ‘scale back’ their alcohol for the celebrations, after last year’s scenes.
Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, the Live with Kelly and Ryan star – who hosts ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve – said: ‘I don’t advocate drinking when one is on the air.
‘I don’t know how that started as a tradition, but it’s probably a good idea [to scale back], CNN.’
Andy previously discussed the reaction to his hosting stint on the network, explaining that he has no regrets about knocking back the drinks in front of the camera.

‘Listen, I will not be shamed for having fun on New Year’s Eve. That’s why I’m there, that’s why they bring me there,’ he said during an appearance on the Howard Stern show shortly after the broadcast.
‘It’s a four-and-a-half-hour show, the booze started kicking in around 11:30 so everyone’s focusing on the last 45 minutes or hour that we were on the air.
‘I kicked into high gear with 45 minutes left so we had done 15 interviews before that point.

‘I won’t be shamed for it, I had a blast, Anderson has a blast. We left and we were like “That was fun, what a fun New Year’s Eve”.
‘No apologies for my drinking on New Year’s Eve, none.’
However, he did regret calling out Ryan – who he previously described as a ‘really great guy’.
All eyes will be on CNN on Saturday night…
