He’s killed once, as he shot Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) – but could young Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) be capable of being Emmerdale’s next serial killer? Natalie J. Robb, who plays his step-mum Moira, isn’t ruling it out.
‘I hope not,’ she told us, but added that it was very much in the hands of the writers.
‘You don’t know, and that could be an avenue that the writers or the producers might want to go down,’ she said. ’It could be a possibility. But maybe when he puts a wee bit more meat on and he just weren’t so gorgeous and dainty like a bird!’
Since Kyle picked up the gun and shot Al on that fateful day, he’s had to live with the consequences both of knowing that he killed someone and that his father, Cain (Jeff Hordley), is in prison because of him. Meanwhile Moira, Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson), Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) and Matty (Ash Palmisciano) have been trying to protect Kyle by keeping up the pretence that Cain killed Al.
Natalie explained the toll this tis taking on Kyle’s mental health. ‘He is struggling isn’t he? He’s wetting the bed and he finds it quite traumatic that he’s having to keep this big secret and of course his dad’s in prison. He just wants to tell the truth and we’ve always raised him to do that and then he’s kind of going against his own judgement. He can’t deal with what he’s done.’

Early on in the story there was talk of taking Kyle for therapy to help him deal with his trauma, but that idea was firmly rejected by Cain who feared what could happen if Kyle opened up to a stranger. Natalie feels that they had no choice.
‘They worry about him getting the counselling in case he told the truth, which he then does anyway,’ she told us.

Caleb (William Ash) comes up with a plan to help both Cain and Kyle, which involves Kyle telling the truth, and Natalie said that this is the point when the family would ensure that Kyle got the psychological help he needs.
‘I definitely think they would do the best thing for him after everything’s out. If everything goes to plan, then I think they would make sure that he was psychologically okay afterwards, because it’s a big deal killing someone. Whether you mean to or not.’
Natalie thinks Kyle could kill again.
