George Webster is making history as he waltzes onto the dancefloor for the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.
But he isn’t a stranger to making history. After all, he was both the first children’s TV presenter and now the first Strictly contestant with Down’s Syndrome.
The 22-year-old will take to the ballroom on Sunday’s Strictly special, but before we see what he’s made of on the dancefloor, let’s find out more about him.
Who is George Webster?
Hailing from Leeds, George made history when he became the first presenter on CBeebies with Down’s Syndrome.
The BAFTA winning presenter is also an actor on stage and screen, appearing in productions in France and the UK, as well as in a cameo role in The Railway Children Return, a sequel to the beloved classic tale.
Other credits include Something Special, Casualty and World on Fire.

Of joining Strictly for the special, George said: ‘I love Strictly and have watched it every year. I’ve always dreamed of being on the show one year and I’m so excited to be on this year’s Christmas Special!’
‘I’m looking forward to being “Strictlyfied”. Bring on the glitter and everything else. I can’t wait to perform on the Strictly dancefloor.’
Who is George paired with on Strictly?
George will be dancing with Strictly pro Amy Dowden, who first joined the series in 2017.
Amy was last seen taking part in Strictly 2022 alongside James Bye (Picture: PA)
In 2019, she was a finalist in the seventeenth series with TV presenter Karim Zeroual. In the latest series, she was partnered with EastEnders’ James Bye, finishing in 11th.
She said: ‘What I’m loving most is seeing the joy on George’s face every day. Watching him improve as a dancer has been fantastic, and it’s a dream come true that we get to do the Strictly Christmas Special dancing a Charleston.’
