Broadcaster Alex Jones has advised people who want children to try and get pregnant early on as she opens up on her difficult journey to having a family.
The TV personality, 45, is now mum to three children with husband Charlie Thomson, but suffered heartbreak along the way.
Alex had a miscarriage in 2017 before welcoming Teddy, five, Kit, three, and one-year-old Annie, and was 39 when she had her first child.
She has now reflected on how she spent her twenties thinking ‘don’t get pregnant, don’t get pregnant,’ before she and her husband decided they wanted to try for a baby when she was in her mid-thirties.
‘Then you become obsessed with it,’ she said.
Speaking to The Sun, she recalled the ‘whole new and different level of wanting – the disappointment and what it does to you as a couple.’

She added that herself and Charlie were ‘really naive’ thinking they would get pregnant quickly and easily, and urged: ‘if you’re in a relationship and you know you want kids, go for your life as soon as you can.
‘But it’s not always that straightforward, is it? I think sometimes it’s not in your control.’
The star previously spoke about fertility worries in 2016, when she fronted BBC show Fertility And Me, and says she is heartened to see the issue highlighted further in recent TV series.

She said: ‘I just thought fertility problems in general hadn’t been really represented on TV.
‘One in seven couples in the UK will have fertility complications, which is a hell of a lot of people to be not represented, or feel like they are not seen.’
Life with three kids keeps the One Show host extremely busy, and she admitted earlier this year that she wouldn’t have been able to compete in Strictly Come Dancing these days, having appeared on the show in 2011.

Reflecting on her time on the show in an interview with OK!, she said: ‘I couldn’t have done Strictly now with three children under the age of six and a job on The One Show, but it worked for me in 2011 because there was no one else to worry about.
‘I had just met Charlie and I didn’t have a family. But I absolutely loved it, although Charlie was like, “What’s going on here?”’
