Line Of Duty is said to be returning for a three-part special on BBC One following the underwhelming series 6 finale.
According to reports, Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston, and Vicky McClure have all signed up to resume their characters Chief Superintendent Ted Hastings, Steve Arnott, and Kate Fleming, with showrunner Jed Mercurio also back on the scene.
The exciting new development comes after many fans were left disappointed by the last episode, which finally exposed Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) as the elusive H.
The proposed instalments look set to uncover whether Buckells really is H and fans could get their answers as early as next Christmas.
‘There was a very strong feeling, particularly among fans, that there was unfinished business with Line of Duty,’ a TV insider said.
‘Viewers weren’t satisfied with the ending of series six and were crying out for a more sensational conclusion — now Jed can deliver that.

‘The question is whether the person we were led to believe was H really is the villain that AC-12 has been hunting or if it was another nemesis.’
The insider continued to The Sun: ‘There’s also a theory another, darker puppet master is at work.
‘The fact that they’re looking at taking the unusual step of making three episodes rather than the usual six or seven is a reflection of just how special this is for the show.’
The latest reports come just one day after McClure gave fans a glimmer of hope that the show will one day be back after she confirmed the cast is happy to return.
