Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez nabbed spots on the 15-track shortlist for the best original song Oscar.
Out of 81 songs, judges whittled numbers down to reveal the line-up that boasted some very familiar pop culture faces ahead of the 95th Academy Awards.
Winning the favour of the members of the music branch, their hits landed them a space in the shortlist, with their artists’ in the running to take home the statue.
The pop stars were all first-time entrants and lined up alongside fellow chart-topper Taylor Swift to battle it out for first prize.
Rihanna, 34, was offered nods for her contribution to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s soundtrack with the ballad Lift Me Up.
The R&B slow song deviated from the star’s usual sound and peaked at number one on Billboard’s US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

My Mind & Me – named after the singer’s documentary and video life story – won Selena, 30, a seat at the Oscars table.
The tune was the principal soundtrack for the Apple TV Plus film that lifted the curtain on the actress’s last few years in the spotlight.
Where the Crawdads Sing featured Carolina by Taylor following which the film and the song received recognition from the prestigious awards.
American singer-songwriter Taylor, 33, penned the track for the highly anticipated film that starred Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kya Clark.
The list also saw the return of some familiar nominees including Lady Gaga, 36, who won an Oscar in 2019 for A Star Is Born.
This time, she was recognised for curating the tune Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise.
Joining Lady Gaga and the rest was The Weeknd – who received a 2016 Original Song nom for Fifty Shades of Grey‘s Earned It – with Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength), a song he co-wrote and performed for Avatar: The Way of Water.
Making an appearance as a veteran to the list with the song Applause from Tell It Like a Woman — a Samuel Goldwyn Films anthology — was Diane Warren.
The 95th Academy Awards are due to take place in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023.
