Anita Dobson has revealed that she offered husband Brian May a cup of tea during his 2020 heart attack, which saw him undergo urgent surgery.
The legendary guitarist, 75, who was one of the founding members of rock band Queen in 1970, suffered the incident while gardening at home and needed to have three stents fitted as a result after being rushed to hospital.
Former soap star Anita, 73, who played Angie Watts in EastEnders in the 1980s, shared earlier this year that she needed to be convinced by her husband that it really was a heart attack.
She initially accused Brian of having ‘overdone it’ with his exercise ahead of going on tour instead.
In an appearance on Loose Women on Tuesday, Anita said she initially thought he was being ‘melodramatic’ as people can be when they complain about pain.
‘He just said, “I think I’m having a heart attack,” and I went, “No, you’ve probably just over-exerted yourself, you’ve overexercised. I’ll make you a cup of tea.”’

After Anita recalled her classic British response to any kind of crisis – popping the kettle on – she recalled his response.
‘He said, “No, this is not a tea moment. I think I’m having a heart attack for real.”’
She also revealed that for the five seconds afterwards she panicked about what to do.
‘[I thought] brandy, sugar, doctor, ambulance all at the same time!’ the actress said.
After the rocker was driven to the hospital ‘by his wonderful doctor’, he received special X-rays and further medical assistance.
It was revealed to Brian that three of his arteries had congested and that he was in serious danger of losing proper blood supply to his heart. To remedy this, he had three stents fitted to maintain a healthier heart.

He was offered open heart surgery, but declined and opted to have the stents fitted instead, as he admitted he was ‘shocked’ to suffer the heart attack because ‘everyone says I’ve got a great blood pressure and I keep fit, I bike, good diet’.
Anita previously shared in 2021 that she had become concerned that ‘something awful was going to happen’ to Brian during his string of health problems during the early days of the Covid pandemic.
Alongside his heart attack, he also suffered a stomach haemorrhage, a tear to his gluteus maximus and sciatica.

‘It’s funny because you think you’ll react a certain way when a disaster happens or when somebody you love is really ill, and sometimes you react completely differently to the way you expected,’ the star said on the talk show last year.

‘I sort of went into shock, I couldn’t believe it. I kind of was almost numbed with the fear that something awful was going to happen to him.’
Luckily, Brian now seems to have made a good recovery, after saying that it had initially ‘knocked the stuffing’ out of him.
