Relative unknown Action Andretti pinned Chris Jericho on AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming in one of the most shocking wins in professional wrestling history.
The 24-year-old rookie, who has been wrestling for just three years, faced off with the WWE legend on Wednesday night in what appeared to be a match designed to showcase the former world champion against enhancement talent – often referred to as a ‘jobber’ by fans.
However, viewers have hailed the match the ‘upset of the century’ after Andretti built momentum and got the live crowd on their feet as he pushed Jericho to the limit.
In the end, he scored a huge win with a running shooting star press, leaving The Ocho stunned and the fans jubilant as the commentary team made it clear how big a moment it was.
Shortly after the match, AEW boss Tony Khan revealed Andretti has signed a contract and is now officially ‘All Elite’.
Reflecting on the unbelievable development, All Elite Wrestling’s newest signing urged his followers on Twitter to chase their dreams and ignore the naysayers.
‘I really just pinned one of the best to ever do this,’ he tweeted. ‘Follow your dreams, and don’t ever let anyone tell you, that you can’t!!!’
Andretti, who has appeared on AEW’s YouTube shows four times before making his TV debut last night, also shared Khan’s announcement and added: ‘THANK YOU @TonyKhan STOKED to be apart of the great team here in @AEW #AllElite’.
Jericho is yet to comment on the match himself, but he has shared plenty of tweets from fans praising the two stars for the emotional and inspirational story they told in the ring.
‘That match was absolute perfection. Dynamite has needed a special moment like that. @IAmJericho made a star out of @ActionAndretti in less than 20 minutes,’ wrote one viewer.
Another added: ‘So @IAmJericho vs @ActionAndretti is EXACTLY why we love wrestling. What an amazing, unexpected match. We were screaming on the couch! #AEW’
AEW Dynamite airs Wednesday night at 1am on Fite TV.
