Daniel Craig has said he’s proud of his Knives Out: Glass Onion character Benoit Blanc’s sexuality, after it was confirmed the master detective is in a same-sex relationship.
The actor, 54, first appeared as Blanc in 2019’s Knives Out and has reprised the role for Glass Onion, which is released on Netflix on December 23.
During a scene in the sequel, which was shown in cinemas for one week and stars singer Janelle Monae, it is revealed that Blanc is in a same-sex relationship.
When an unknown person knocks on the door of Blanc’s apartment, actor Hugh Grant answers, revealing that his character is Blanc’s partner.
The film’s writer-director Rian Johnson confirmed the theory by saying: ‘It just made sense to Daniel and me. We didn’t want to be coy or cute about it.’
And speaking to The Sunday Times, Craig reiterated the director’s point that it was important to include references to Blanc’s sexuality.

‘You are supposed to reflect life. And that [same-sex] relationship reflects people in my life,’ he said of the reveal in Glass Onion.
The James Bond actor continued on to say that the reveal felt ‘normal’: ‘We don’t make a song and dance out of it. It just feels right.’

The film’s cast also includes former wrestler Dave Bautista, WandaVision’s Kathryn Hahn, and Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr.
In an interview with Deadline magazine earlier this year, Craig said he didn’t want viewers to get too ‘hung up’ on Blanc’s sexuality in the film.
‘The less of a song and dance we make about that, the better, really. I don’t want people to get politically hung up on anything.’

Earlier this week, Craig, who played James Bond for 15 years, revealed that he actually wanted the spy to be killed off much, much earlier.
‘I had genuinely thought I would do one Bond movie and then it would be over,’ he admitted. Craig ended up playing Bond in five films.
