Lorraine Kelly has called Thomas Markle a ‘silly, silly man’ for ignoring Meghan Markle’s calls.
The former actress has said she only found out her father would miss her wedding ‘through a tabloid’, while Mr. Markle had made headlines for apparently staging paparazzi shots before the Sussexes’ wedding in 2018.
He then told media he’d had a heart attack but ignored the duchess’s concerned calls, and now the 63-year-old TV presenter has weighed in on the situation.
‘He was a silly, silly man. He was stupid and he should have answered her calls,’ Lorraine said on her own ITV breakfast show.
However, she also insisted Mr. Markle should have been ‘protected’ in the UK as soon as his daughter got engaged to Prince Harry.
She added: ‘He’s not covered himself in glory, let’s be honest. But at the same, as soon as the engagement happened, that wee fella should’ve been scooped up, brought over here and protected.’

When the reports first came out of her father staging paparazzi pictures, Meghan said that he initially denied doing so when she asked him about it on the phone.
Meghan said that she didn’t believe her father, and claimed that she only found out he wouldn’t be attending her wedding through a report in TMZ.
A message apparently sent by Meghan to her father read: ‘Please can I ask that you stop talking to any press… you haven’t returned any of our 20+ calls since we all spoke on Saturday morning; which only adds to the hurt you’ve been causing. We aren’t angry but we do really need to speak to u. Love M and H.’
‘Of course, it’s incredibly sad what happened,’ Harry said to the camera during their new Netflix documentary. ‘She had a father before this, and now she doesn’t have a father.’

He added: ‘And I shouldered that. If Meg wasn’t with me, then her dad would still be her dad.’
Meanwhile, Lorraine also insisted Harry and Meghan should be invited to attend King Charles III’s coronation in 2023, regardless of any rift between the couple and other royals.
She referenced Prince Andrew, who stepped down from public life over his friendship with paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein in 2019, and went on to pay millions to settle a civil sexual assault case to a woman he claimed never to have met – allegations he has vehemently denied.
She argued: ‘Come on, if Prince Andrew’s gonna be the there, if dodgy heads of state – and you know how dodgy some of them are – if they’re all gonna be at the coronation, of course they should be there. Surely!
‘They should definitely get invited, they should.’
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV1.
