Sam Smith has revealed that they think they are now ‘addicted’ to tattoos, with the current count for their body inking standing at over 35.
The chart-topping singer, who burst onto the scene back in 2012 with hits Latch with Disclosure and La La La with Naughty Boy, is still riding high with their recent number one viral hit Unholy alongside Kim Petras.
As part of Saturday night’s glittering line-up for Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard, Sam took to the stage with the likes of Coldplay, Mimi Webb, and Lewis Capaldi.
In a backstage chat with Capital Breakfast’s Roman Kemp at the event, the 30-year-old gave an update on their tattoos after Roman said that all Sam’s fans had been commenting on them.
Chatting about some of their new additions, Sam revealed: ‘I’ve been going onto the torso… It was intense, but it was good. We were listening to loads of pop music and it was fun and we had a good time.’
‘I was just eating Cheetos, just getting into the mood,’ Sam said of a recent inking session.

After Roman asked what they had tattooed on their body now, Sam replied: ‘It says “romance” on my belly. And then my anchor on my chest. I’m addicted now. I’m like 35-plus tattoos.’
Sam has previously been open about their tattoos, and the more (and less) important meanings behind them.
In 2017, they revealed to Heart Radio presenters Emma Bunton and Jamie Theakston their tattoo of an ice cream on their leg, confessing at the time: ‘I’ve got like an ice cream on my ankle and I don’t know why it’s there.’

Last year, Sam seemed to get a tattoo that reflected their gender identity after coming out as non-binary in 2019 and explaining that they were changing their pronouns to they/them after ‘a lifetime of being at war with my gender’.
Tattoo artist Miles Langford from The London Social shared a picture to Instagram of him and Sam, writing: ‘ICON @samsmith 💘Thanks for getting tattooed.’
He then posted a black and white image of the inking on Sam’s right arm – an illustration of a young child looking at themselves in the mirror wearing underwear, while out of the reflection they were wearing high heels.

On Thursday, Sam took to Instagram to share a picture of themselves on a motorbike in just underwear, trainers and a flowing fur coat after saying they had finally ‘learned to be confident’ in their skin.

The Stay With Me singer recently told British GQ: ‘Over the last few years, as I’ve become confident in my skin, I’ve got loads of wonderful romantic attention.
‘It’s been incredible. I’m so open to it. And I know what I want, and I know who I am and I’m excited for that.’
