With just days to go until the big day, preparation and planning is firmly underway.
But it seems one in three Brits won’t be indulging in a festive tipple this year. In fact, many will be swapping mulled wine for mocktails.
New research has found that 37% will be having a sober Christmas in 2022 – instead opting for alcohol-free drinks to celebrate.
The data, carried out by Schweppes, also found that one in four (23%) British adults under the age of 40 now consider themselves as tee-total – while 26% of Gen Z and millennials are now completely sober.
Instead of heading to the pub or out to a boozy party, 47% of those who will be alcohol-free this festive season plan to enjoy movie nights, meet friends for a festive coffee (39 %), go on shopping trips (30%) and enjoy romantic winter walks with their partner (28%).

Ditching the drink seems to be a popular choice with younger generations too, with 32% of under 40s in the study describing themselves as either ‘sober curious’ or as a moderate drinker.
In terms of the choice behind the nation’s drinks, top motivations include cost (58%), alcohol content (37%) and calorie content (33%) – while Instagram, or social shareability, is a key motivation for one in six.
