England and France meet in Qatar tonight in their mouthwatering World Cup quarter-final clash.
Gareth Southgate’s side will need to be at their very best if they are to beat the defending champions, who have not lost a World Cup knockout game since 2014.
But when exactly was the last time England beat France and what is their head-to-head record?

When was the last time England beat France?
England lasted tasted victory over France in an international friendly in November 2015.

Former Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli scored on his England debut to give the Three Lions the lead just before the break, with Wayne Rooney adding a second three minutes into the second half at Wembley to record a 2-0 win.
When did England last beat France in the World Cup?
England have only played France twice in the history of the World Cup – and they have won them both.
The last occasion was in the 1982 World Cup in Spain, with two goals from Bryan Robson and one from Paul Mariner helping the Three Lions to a 3-1 victory in the first group stage.
And their very first triumph over the French at the World Cup came in the victorious 1966 campaign on home soil, with England winning the group stage game 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Roger Hunt in front of a packed-out Wembley.

What is England’s overall record against France?
Of the 31 previous meetings between the two nations, England have won 17, France have won nine and there have been five draws.
In fact, England won 11 of the first 14 matches between 1923 and 1957.

However, France’s defeat in the 2015 friendly is the only time England have beaten Les Bleus in the previous seven meetings.
Their Euro 2004 clash ended with a 2-1 victory for France, whilst their Euro 2012 meeting – the last time they faced each other in a major tournament – ended in a 1-1 draw.
The last fixture between the two footballing heavyweights was a friendly in Paris in June 2017, which England lost 3-2 despite a brace from Harry Kane.
