Melissa Barrera has opened up about the upcoming Scream 6 sequel, insisting that it will be ‘100 times gorier’ than what we’ve seen before.
The upcoming slasher flick will be released on March 10, 2023, with Melissa and Jenna Ortega reprising their roles as sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter respectively.
They will also be joined by Courteney Cox’s iconic Gale Weathers, however Neve Campbell confirmed that she would not be returning to the fold as ‘final girl’ Sidney Prescott.
Spilling the beans on what is in store for horror fans, the 32-year-old revealed that directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have ramped up the blood, the scares and the screams.
‘There was a saying on set because Matt and Tyler were always asking for more blood and more sweat,’ she said in a new interview.
‘They always just wanted more. “More blood spritz” was the saying because they would just always want more.’

‘With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been up until that point and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay,’ she added to Collider. ‘But with this one, they were like, “We’re going all out”.’
Earlier this year, Neve broke hearts all over the world when she confirmed that she would be bowing out ahead of the sixth instalment, due to a dispute on salary.
‘Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film,’ she said in a message. ‘As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream.
‘I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.

‘It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me.
‘I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.’
However, the Lincoln Lawyer actress admitted that she may not have turned her back on Woodsboro for good.

‘I don’t know that I’m done for good,’ she told People magazine. ‘It would really depend on what they came to me with next. It would have to be different. It would have to be a different attitude, and I’m not sure that’s going to happen.
‘If they came to me with a number that felt right, that felt respectful, that felt in keeping with my value that I brought to the franchise, I’d be willing to consider [a return].
‘Honestly, I’m really okay. I’ve been able to let it go. I wish them well. I’m doing three different shows right now. I’m very, very grateful that I’m working. I’m happy. So all is good.’
Scream 6 is slated to be released on March 10, 2023.
