Fifa says it is ‘deeply saddened’ by the death of another migrant labourer at the Qatar World Cup.
A maintenance worker at a hotel used as a training base by Saudi Arabia’s national team reportedly died earlier in the tournament.
He was a Filipino man in his forties and and was based at a five-star beach resort used by the side, according to The Athletic.
The outlet reported he was involved in a forklift truck accident but this has not been confirmed.
Fifa has confirmed a death occurred in Doha during the tournament but did not specify a date or give further details.
A statement issued to the BBC read: ‘Fifa is deeply saddened by this tragedy and our thoughts and sympathies are with the worker’s family.
‘As soon as Fifa was made aware of the accident, we contacted the local authorities to request more details.

‘Fifa will be in a position to comment further once the relevant processes in relation to the worker’s passing have been completed.’
The 2022 World Cup has been in the spotlight for several years over the treatment of migrant labourers hired to build and maintain the facilities needed to host the tournament.
Human rights groups say the death toll associated with the project runs to well over 6,000.
The Qatari government had originally put the count at less than 40 but an official conceded ‘between 400 and 500’ died on building sites after the tournament began.
