Today’s news summary – Paper Talk
Tuesday’s front pages are dominated by the reaction to the newest trailer release from the Harry and Meghan documentary.
The right-wing tabloids are in turmoil over the trailer and have reacted with anger, claiming fakery and lies from the couple and Netflix, whilst the left-wing papers pick up on Harry’s claims of ‘planted stories.’
Several papers use the same image from the trailer – of Meghan wiping away tears, with Prince Harry sat next to her.
Harry and Meghan Netflix fury for tabloids
The Daily Mail says there is “fury” over Harry and Meghan’s claims of a “war against Meghan” – and suggests the documentary, which consists of six episodes, will reveal what the paper calls “their staggering distortions.”
“Fact or fantasy,” asks the Daily Mirror, alongside an image of Harry with his hand over his eyes and Meghan in the background.
Harry and Meghan Netflix trailer under fire
Some of the papers report the trailer used images of a media press pack that had nothing to do with the couple – and instead were from a Harry Potter premiere, years before the couple met, and other footage that doesn’t relate to them.
The Sun claims the couple have been caught in a “fakery storm” saying the scene showing them benign hounded by the media was in actual fact a press pack snapping the former model Katie Price at court.
It’s an “all-out war” according to the Daily Express after Harry accused the Royal Family of playing a “dirty game.” The royal author Phil Dampier writes in the paper, saying he’s starting to worry that Harry himself “has gone spare” – a nod to Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir called SPARE.
“Their Royal Shynesses,” says the anti-monarchy newspaper the Daily Star which continues with its long-running digs at Harry and Meghan. But to be fair, the Daily Star doesn’t like the royals – past or present, and Harry and Meghan aren’t the only ones who come under fire in the paper. The Star notes it will be worth getting “the popcorn in” for the “fireworks” it expects will go off on Thursday – when the TV show airs.
