Gary Lineker has sent a message of support to England footballer Raheem Sterling, who has returned home from the World Cup in Qatar following his family home being burgled.
The 62-year-old sports presenter sent a message wishing the Chelsea player well, after an armed robbery happened at his home in Surrey, while his partner and children were inside.
Sterling, who scored the winning goal over Iran that secured England a place in the quarter-final, rushed back to the UK to be with his family who were ‘shaken’ by break-in on Saturday night.
Lineker has led the support, as he took to Twitter and penned: ‘Thoughts are with @sterling7 and his family after their awful and harrowing ordeal.’
Former Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson also sent a message of support to his past Liverpool teammate.
‘I hope everything’s okay with Raheem’s family at home,’ he wrote. ‘I hope he goes back and he can sort everything out, and hopefully he can come back, but all our thoughts and support is with him.’

It is not yet known if the Chelsea forward will return for the upcoming England quarter-final against France on December 10.
England manager Gareth Southgate said fans will have to ‘wait and see’ as the situation unfolds, whether Sterling will return to Qatar.

‘At the moment, clearly the priority is for him to be with his family and we’re going to support that,’ Southgate said at the time about Sterling’s decision.
‘We’re going to allow him to have as much time as he needs… I really don’t know [whether he will return] because at the moment, it’s a situation that he needs time with his family to deal with and I don’t want to put him under any pressure.’
He added: ‘Sometimes football isn’t the most important thing and family should come first.’
