Canadian TikTok star Megha Thakur has died suddenly at the age of 21.
The online personality, who was from Brampton, Ontario, was well known for promoting self-confidence and body positivity on her platform – which boasted 930,000 followers.
Thakur’s parents confirmed the tragic news on Tuesday, writing: ‘It is with heavy hearts we announce the light of our life, our kind, caring, and beautiful daughter, Megha Thakur, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on 24 November 2022 in the early morning hours.
‘She loved her fans and would have wanted you to know of her passing. At this time, we request your blessings for Megha.
‘Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey.
‘At this time, we request your blessings for Megha. Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey,’ before signing the post ‘Megha’s loving parents.’
The 21-year-old amassed nearly 1million followers on TikTok since she posted her first video in November 2019.
Her most viral TikTok with over 10 million views is one of her teaching people how to move their butt after a commenter requested a tutorial.
Thakur was also known for championing South Asian representation.

Fans took to social media to share their condolences, with one writing: ‘oh my god. this is such a shock, sending love and prayers to her family.’
‘My heart is broken. She has left such an amazing impact on everyone who knew her. She will be missed so dearly,’ another added.
A third person wrote: ‘This is crushing. She will always be an inspiration to people around the world an will never be forgotten.’

In Thakur’s most recent Instagram post, she was filmed walking around New York City, with the late star emphasising the importance of self-love and confidence in the caption.
‘YOU’RE in charge. Remember that,’ she wrote, along with the hashtags #SelfLove and #Confidence.
As of now, no additional details about the cause of Thakur’s death have been released.
